Does anyone know where you can get student loans for med school if you have a weak credit history? I'm filling out my FASFA now but I have no idea what to expect in terms of whether or not they are going to give me the loan. My parents are willing to cosign loans with me, will this help??

As a medical student you will qualify for Stafford loans which are based soley on need and independent of your credit. If you need additional loans on top of what they offer in Stafford loans a cosigner will help you qualify for these loans.

You don't need them to cosign on your Federal Loans. If you want institutional aid, make sure to put your parents info in, although you will still be considered independent.

Cosigners are needed if you fall short of the budgeted amount and need to borrow additional money from private sources.

MPP was right. Keep in mind your EFC may reduce your stafford loans, as will any scholarships that you receive. Depending on the budget of the school, you should be eligible to receive up to $38,500 a year.
