So I've been accepted to Creighton and MUSC for med school and I am finding myself paralyzed when it comes to making a decision. I was hoping there might be some students out there who are more knowledgeable when it comes to the pros/cons of each school. The main issue for my indecisiveness is that - my boyfriend lives in Charleston ---- but I really enjoyed my interview day at Creighton and enjoyed the "student-orientedness". Thanks for any kind advice.

Swimmergirl, I'm in a similar situation involving different schools...I've been accepted to Virginia Tech Carilion and TCMC, and loved VTC. However, my boyfriend lives in New York, so TCMC's Scranton location is much closer to him than Roanoke, VA is. One factor I've been considering is the research programs at both schools. In my case, VTC is strongly research-oriented, while TCMC is community-based, and has limited research funds. Because doing research is important in residency placement, I'm concerned that going to TCMC would limit my chances of placing into a good residency in a desirable location. Are there any differences in the research programs at Creighton and MUSC? Might be something to consider.

P.S. My best friend is currently an MS1 at MUSC...she says the city is beautiful, although it tends to flood a lot. They also apparently emphasize local medical quirks...one of her classes discusses faith healing, etc. as this is something physicians in this area encounter in their patients. This local focus may be a + or - for you, depending on whether you want to stay in SC after med school (she's from Maryland, so she thinks it's kind of weird).

If you are in-state at MUSC, go there. If not, go to Creighton.

Charleston is a beautiful place. What in particular do you like about Creighton?

i interviewed at creighton and looooooved it, however if your significant other is right there it would be hard to pass up.....do you think you would be unhappy at musc or that everything else aside you just favored creighton a little? also is money an issue (i don't know what musc's cost is but creighton is pricey)

i know i wasn't very helpful but good luck with your decision, i wish i had a creighton acceptance in hand but perhaps i will in a month or so

MUSC is an amazing place, but go where you think you'd be the happiest. That's all that really matters anyway.

I much rather live in Omaha than live in SC personally. I just got accepted to Creighton and I have to say that Omaha has some charm to it for sure. I mean theres almost a million people...it is NOT a bunch of hicks and red necks by any means....

Have you ever been to downtown Charleston UAAWolf? Probably not if you're calling the population "a bunch of hicks and red necks". I'm not defending South Carolina as a whole, but I am defending MUSC as your comment is pretty insulting.

To the OP: I would much prefer MUSC, Charleston is awesome and right next to the beach.

I think UAA was saying that Omaha isn't a bunch of hicks and rednecks, not that Charleston was, but I could be wrong

OP did you make a decision?

I interviewed at Creighton and I was very impressed. Like you, I loved seeing the strong student camaraderie and friendly involved faculty. Also, I'm from Los Angeles and I had some crazy misconceptions of Omaha - many of them were totally wrong :) MUSC, well, I have no idea what kind of program they have there, but it appears to be some positive support for it here on this thread...

For me, if I was deciding between schools of similar reputation the deciding factor would be 1. cost & 2. proximity to home.
