UF asks in their secondary to list any crimes you have been charged with. I was charged for a misdemeanor, but was not convicted. Therefore, my record is just as clean as anyone else's. i dont see why they would have you list a charge in which you were found innocent. i dont want to lie on the app. although i feel a little scared that it will reflect poorly on me even though i was found innocent. im going to talk to a lawyer. has anyone else seen this?

I wouldn't leave it off, as it will probably come back to bite you if you do. You'll be fine, just give them the explanation they want and move on. You weren't convicted so you'll be fine. A charge means nothing at all. I have a charge, explained in my undergrad app, still got into a great school, no problem. I wouldn't sweat it. Oh, and don't waste money consulting a lawyer, he won't tell you anything usefull. It's not taht big of a deal to be charged with something.

If you were charged but not convicted then leave it off. The legal system has affirmed your innocence, so you have nothing to report.

so you were charged with something but were not covicted? then i think you have nothing to hide.

No, that's wrong. The question asks if he was ever CHARGED with a crime, not if he was ever convicted. He absolutely must report it per the question. Whether guilty or innocent is simply incidental to the fact that they want to know if he has been charged. It's not a big deal, and if you don't out it on you wil risk losing your shot for something so minor.

From your story there is no reason to hide anything.

if its not on your 'record' then I dont see how they can find out, and you were innocent after all. Dont worry, adcoms dont hire CIA members to track your past...

I actually believe it's illegal for them to ask if you've been CHARGED with a crime. I don't think ure required to answer about anything except convictions

If you have been arrested you have a record. If they do a background check it will come up. You can move to have it expunged. You could play up, I was falsely charged so charges were dropped. . the whole I was erroneously accused thing, it happens. Good luck

Also, if you were a minor it would not show up. However, YOU DID NOT GET CONVICTED. If you don't reveal it, you look guilty. Instead, come clean and they will think you are a better person for it. Snoop Dog and Ray Lewis were both arrested on murder related charges, but not convicted. It hasn't hurt their careers. Then again, to the best of my knowledge, neither of them is trying to get into medical school.

My bad. I thought the question was "if convicted."

If it ask about being charged, then you need to say yes. If you were arrested, then THERE IS a record of that and it WILL show up in backround check.

Hey! Don't listen to these uptight geeks. If you were never convicted of anything, then leave it off. But go ahead and expunge your file. Look up some other posts of mine that give detail info.

To the last post on this, it is a little late in the game to get an arrest record completely expunged. There is a paper trail that takes some time to get swept up if you are expunged. You would be lying on your secondary if you said no because it could take months to competely clear your record. Many people have been arrested and will answer yes to that Q. Physicans are not saints and everyone is 20 and acts like it.

you can pay to get a background check on yourself... see if anything pops up... maybe you can even go to the police station or something? it seems reasonable to me that they'd be able (perhaps obligated?) to look up your record and tell you what's up.

a cheap option is applying to a 'now hiring' major chain of stores that do background checks and answering 'no' to the charged quesiton and seeing if any red flags pop up...

or call a med school admisisons and ask. from a frequented pay phone. with gloves on. and use one of those voice changers.

just write, "I plead the fifth!!"

but really...I don't think it's worth the worry. It might be brought up in interviews, not as a maek against you but as a way to see what you have gained from the experience, etc.

It takes about 3 months for the paper work to go through the capital. Then you have to appear in court and there the judge will decide whether to expunge your record.

it does take about two months to get any record expunged but contrary to indebt, you do not necessarily have to appear in court. in many states you simply fill out paperwork and send it to the appropriate authorities.

and an arrest absolutely will show up if the school does a background check. furthermore, the state licensing board also has access to ALL records, even expunged ones. because this record has not been expunged you best answer yes.

It may take a while for the expungement to go through but might as well start on it now because you maybe faced with the same question again in the future. Don't worry to much about it though you will be fine. Good luck to you.
