CSU Admissions Portal--Now Open

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Yay!!! That is wonderful, I'm happy that they are seriously considering those in the academic review pile for regular admission, that means they are hopefully looking at more than just GPA (which in my opinion, a great GPA doesn't necessarily make the best veterinarian)

Now you get to sit and wait like me until late-December to hear if you get the boot or not! Waiting is such a pain.

Just wanted to let everyone know that my CSU page has been updated and I was moved from the "early academic review" pile to the "regular admissions review pile" as of this morning!

Congrats! I just checked mine, and I'm in the regular pool too! I was so worried that my 3.0 would get me kicked out in the first round.

I got the boot. I guess the rest of my application wasn't enough to save my 3.18 GPA. How depressing. Now all I have to focus on until the rest of the decisions are made is this rejection.

Me too. My 3.2 didn't cut it, even with a couple thousand hours of experience. 🙁

I got rejected too...I can't believe that 1,756 people applied to CSU! That's a lot!

TrocarKarin- thats great news!! i was just wondering what unique things were in your application to get moved to the regular pool with a 3.0. Maybe it will give me hope if i possess some of the same experiences 😀

WooHoo!! I've just been sent to the "normal" pool as well. I didn't think I'd make it with my somewhat less than exemplary GPA. Huge relief :soexcited:

I got the boot to!! My GPA was soooo close to a 3.2 to!! I also have thousands of hours of diverse vet/animal experience!! It was my first time applying there but my third application cycle!! I hope this year is not another flood of rejection letters.

Sometimes I can't tell with typing the "tone" of a message. Is this a good natured ribbing over my reply in the CSU supplemental thread, or are you seriously asking what experiences made my application stand out?

My second time applying there, and I was in the regular pool last year--none of this early review junk then. My GPA hasn't changed at all since then, so it must be this new phased system theyre using.

No i'm serious. Im sure they saw something in your app that they really like or prefer. For instance, if you had a ton of large animal experience id be a little worried about myself because I have barely any large animal and it probably means they really like people to have some. I heard that Minnesota basically throws apps out if they have no LA. Unfortunately, i found this out after i applied 🙁 could have saved 200$!! Oh well, i dont know if that is really true though

**OOOO i just clicked on that supplemental link lol, wow did you really write about that?? (could not tell from the text if you were joking) that is AWESOME!! def unique haha

I've got tons large animal experience, and they tossed me out like trash, so I doubt that's the only thing they look for 😉

🙁 i know you were adding humor, but you're not trash!! 😀 My advisor told my class to keep a positive confident attitude about yourself, because you will need it to show through during your interview. So i say uplifting things to myself in my head, maybe it will help haha. This is the one time when it hurts to be modest.

I hope it was your OOS school though? then it wont matter as much. Im preparing for many rejections because i applied to 6 OOS and obviously most will dump me too lol I guess you never know though. I have 2 friends and both of them got rejected by VMRCVM (their IS school) and now one is goin to kansas and the other cornell. How did she get into cornell but now VMRCVM!? crazy

Yup, I'm OOS. Cornell's my IS though, so we'll have to see how that goes. I know how much Cornell loves their high GPAs. I applied to a bunch of schools, but Colo was one of my top choices, just based on the area and the program. (That, and I'd kill to spend a day in their equine repro lab!). As a back up, I think I might apply for a masters program there.

No worries, I just couldn't tell if it was a joke at how off the wall my past is, or if you were genuinely curious.

I think I have a couple things keeping me in the running. I'm in state. Most of the classes that ruined my GPA were from like 2003, and recent grades have been much better. I have really high GRE scores to balance out the crap GPA. In my PS and supplemental questions I heavily emphasized that even though I had a weird past, how the interpersonal skills from being a funeral director and piercer would transfer over to vet med, and how since I owned my own business as a body piercer, how I want to continue owning my own business. It was a tightrope walk of mentioning my past enough to explain it, and pique people's interest without sounding like a freak. I only have about 1300 hours in a small animal/exotic/wildlife clinic, and a whole day with horses.

eek cornell is way out of my league lol Tough school for IS but just think...what if you get in!! top school!!! woo hooo
I have been debating about applying to masters programs now. I know it would be a good idea but i already took 2 years off doing a research fellowship and i dont want to delay vet school another 2 years!! 🙁

This is so interesting! its amazing how skills from different jobs can be related. I tried to make my personal statement stand out, but at the same time i know once they got passed my first paragraph (about an animal experience i had as a kid written in a fantasy/sci fi way) it was all the same boring things everyone else is writing

onwards and upwards. 1st time older applicant (7+ yrs of school) with wide variety of vet experience (wildlife, marine mammal, exotic, companion) and gpa that rounds up to 3.2. Oh well. Moving on to a school that wants me for me...

You will do fantastic, just don't let this get you down. I am truly sorry for all of you who did not make it through to the regular admissions cycle. I hope you all get into one of your other choices.

Wow! This feels so nutty having this first round of cuts so early and so transparent! Congrats to everyone who is in the regular pool now, and I'm really sorry to hear that some of you were not moved there. Having been rejected from CSU last year, I know it hurts... and I fear it is just a matter of a few more months before I get rejected again. And 1,700 some odd applications? Holy smoke do we ever have competition!

Just 6 more days until we all get to freak out over lost transcripts😀! Or maybe that is just me... with 8 transcripts sent separately by the schools, it seems nearly impossible that all of them got there correctly.

whoa, i got into the regular pool. colorado isn't a realistic choice for me, but i'm happy to know that they liked something about me to keep me another round. :luck:

Congrats to everyone who got moved on from Phase 2! We combined program applicants are still stuck there waiting. 🙂

nyanko, when i saw that you'd posted, i thought you'd already gotten your decision! i logged on (which i ALMOST NEVER do while at work) to say congrats. don't scare us like that!

i guess i'll just have to go back to silently rootin' for y'all who're applying to the dual program!

I just got an e-mail from CSU saying that the portal is open, and that they have posted some decisions about the early academic review (obvious) and that some of the combined program decisions and "ineligible" designations have also been posted.

Any of you combined program peeps get any new news?

Too scared to check on combined program news...gulp here it goes...

My combined program status is still pending...no news = good news I hope:shrug:

Yeah, remember that there are different combined degree programs, too, so like, MBA or MPH applicants might be easier to evaluate than PhD applicants so the decisions might be for them!

Nothing here either though of course I had to stop everything and check the second I got that email!

The receipt of materials and tuition classification tabs are now open. They don't have any check mark boxes next to my GRE scores. I read somewhere they don't even look at the official scores until December, so maybe that is why. Also, under transcripts, they don't have one of my schools listed. Hmmmm....I guess I will be making some phone calls.

Oh my gosh, the people at Colorado made my day.

One of my transcripts was unchecked as unreceived and I emailed the woman in charge to clarify that this was actually a Fall Transcript and shouldn't be expected until February.

She emailed me back within the hour to tell me that it had been clarified and now my application was complete! What a relief!!!

Yeah! I just emailed her and she got back to me in less than 10 min!! Everything is in, now we can just sit and wait...again 🙂

Anyone have check marks next to their GRE scores? Mine say it's self reported but I don't know if they've received the official copies.

I was pleasantly surprised to see that all of my documents got to CSU in one piece... can't say the same for Ohio or Minnesota (though those issues have since been resolved 🙂)!

EDIT: Although no check mark next to the GRE scores... but since that seems to be the case for everyone, I'm not too concerned about it at the moment.

No check near my scores either. They got everything except they have an unchecked mark next to my current fall institution so I e-mailed about that.

And she just got back to me and fixed it. Man she's awesomely fast.

Yeah, Janet is pretty awesome when it comes to quickness/notifications.

I had 3 transcripts, which were all received, but above them all, there is a "-1" notation, which also has a check mark. Anyone else have anything similar?

I'm thinking maybe there was just an extra line when I entered schools in the supplemental..

Anybody else get an email today verifying their state residency?

Nyanko - any word yet?

The next month cannot go fast enough.

Nope, nothing yet for me!

HandD42 posted earlier in another thread saying no change for her, either. I have a feeling all the DVM/PhD people will find out at the same time.

I did register an eID using the CSU ID that was supplied there though, so I can be even more obsessive for no particular reason. I think there is something wrong with me. I have little to no chance at this school anyway, especially the combined program. 😀

No e-mail about residency on this end either, but the day is still young and I have one of those end-of-the-alphabet-wait-forever-for-your-name-to-be-called last names.

I'm about ready to kill someone. Early last week, I sent a SECOND request to my university for a transcript to be sent to CSU, since apparently the first one never got there. On my university's website, the transcript request status for the first time AND this time says that they left off the "1601 Campus Delivery" part, even though I know I put it in both times -- I've been obsessive about getting addresses right! They supposedly sent it last Tuesday or Wednesday (it says it was printed Tuesday), and my CSU page still says they don't have a transcript. If this doesn't change in the next day and a half (maybe it'll get there today, maybe they haven't had a chance to update the website), I am going to send a nice email to CSU to possibly be followed by a not-so-happy visit to the office of the registrar here.

ETA: I'm not really homicidal or THAT upset. I'm saving it for when I KNOW for certain that they screwed it up TWICE.

Have a transcript sent to you and then you overnight it to CSU. Then you know it's right.

I did that with all mine in one bundle. None of the schools complained about it and I figured it was the only way to be certain all 7 of mine arrived.

I know this is fine for CSU but some schools specifically state that they will only accept transcripts sent straight from the admissions office. I think maybe Cornell or Penn or both are like this?

NOTE: The tuition classification you currently see check-marked is the one you selected on your application. The CSU Office of Admissions is in the process of confirming all statuses. We hope to confirm tuition classification statuses of Colorado and Non-sponsored applicants by OCT 31 and of WICHE applicants by NOV 30. The DVM Admissions Office will send an email to you to confirm tuition classification for Colorado and Non-sponsored applicants on NOV 1 and later on DEC 1 for WICHE applicants. If you do not receive an email confirming your tuition classification, please call 970.491.6909.

I have yet to receive an e-mail and I'm non-sponsored..looks like i'm making a phone call tomorrow.

Thanks for the input on the transcripts. I'll give them a couple days in case it hasn't gotten there yet or they haven't had time to put it in the computer, then I'll start making some phone calls.

Yup I got my non-sponsored status confirmation today at 12:41pm EST

I got my non-sponsored confirmation today as well, at 12:46pm EST.
