Hey guys
so i live less than a mile away from this test site, so i decided to take a little visit (just to ease the nerves). I thought i'd post some of my initial impressions...
1. 5601 west slauson
this is a business park...fairly big
2. when you make a left turn (or right depending which direction on slauson you're coming on) onto brighton (i think this the name of the street), turn right into the first driveway, and then MAKE A QUICK RIGHT. if you go straight, you'll just be going further away from suite 110 (PROMETRIC)
3. The people at the testing site couldn't care less that you're pre-meds, taking the mcat or some other big test....they see students coming in to take exams all day long... in other words, they're not anal (at least not the couple of people i spoke with)
4. there are lockers right at the front (as you enter). each has a lock and key (or maybe a combo lock...couldn't quite see from where i was). as stated on amcas site, you're not allowed to take anything inside the test area.
5. regarding jackets/sweatshirts...if you're wearing one, you're not allowed to take it off your body while testing
6. THEY USE CRT monitors, not LCD...i know some people were getting real picky about refresh rates and junk like that, so i just thought i'd mention this
7. THE RESTROOMS ARE OUTSIDE!!! this sucks...you have to get a key from the receptionist (they seemed to have 2 or 3 copies of each of the keys..one for men, one for women). Though the bathrooms aren't very far, you still have to leave the suite, go outside, and walk a little to get to them. I'm not sure how this is supposed to work if we only have 10minutes b/w sections
8. it seems like a fairly quiet area. i went today around 4:15pm....so i'm not sure how it'll be monday afternoon.
9. there is small coffee shop/cafe ... sort of next to where the restrooms are
can't think of anything else right now...hope this is somewhat helpful. of course, if you're able to, it wouldn't hurt to get comfortable with this area before test day..
cheers
