i just met dr. kayne, dir. admissions at sinai at a med school fair at my school (along with the heads of admissions at duke, columbia, cornell, einstein, northwestern, dartmouth, stonybrook, downstate, air force, navy, and a few others) and he told me some interesting things about the financial problems.
first, no rejections or waitlists have gone out
second, acceptances have been going out rolling since january, and he can't say when to expect a decision
third, the financial problems are big, but no bigger than those of stanford/penn, which he said were much worse. he said that they are cutting some programs that "dont aid us in our long term goals" and tuition would go up, and financial aid would not be as generous. that being said, sinai will no longer be the cheapest private medical school. he said that the task force that was hired to make the adjustments would submit their report this week and as soon as Sinai knew what they were doing, they were going to inform all accepted students of the changes.
also, class WILL go from 105-> 120, but he said that the class USED to be around 115, so the school was ready for them.
really nice guy with a great handshake.
