Went to a school that shifted to 1.5 yr preclinical and moved Step 1 after clerkship year. Thus, I cannot comment on the isolated case of shortening the curriculum in terms of how it impacted step scores or shelf scores. However, the main benefit of the shortened curriculum outside of that is the increased time to do electives/subI before ERAS. I had several months of electives and my subI before ERAS was due, so didn't necessarily have to worry about getting rec letters during clerkships and had a lot more experience in my given field prior to submitting ERAS/residency interviews. For electives prior to ERAS, also had March, April, May, June and already had taken steps 1 and 2 CK and CS by June. Shift of the USMLE testing periods off-cycle seemed useful for scheduling those exams.
