DAT Biology

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I agree that Kaplan is a good bio review book. REA is a great supplement for practice questions.

You can also go to www.gre.com and downloard their biology subject test for free. The questions are more difficult than the real DAT but at least it will test your knowledge.

Anything that tests your knowledge is good, because it gets you out of your usual study groove. Even if the questions are more difficult, it might still make you consciously aware of areas of study that you need to work on.

For example, the question might be way too in depth for you, but if you can't recall 5 or 6 general items dealing with something in the question, then you probably ought to study that area some more.

Kaplan is the sure thing for the DAT. I still believe you can memorize that book and get scores about 20s in every subject.

I would agree except for quant reasoning, i thought kaplans word-problems, statistics, and trig was very light.

The problem with Kaplan is that it fails to provide enough adequate example and sample problems to supplement the subjects it reviews (in fact, Kaplan provides no practice problems). I know at least for the MCAT Kaplan, the big blue commercial MCAT book (same size and purpose as big blue commercial DAT book) now has supplemental problems in it, as well as subject tests after each reviewed subject. If only Kaplan would devote more time to DAT as it has to the MCAT. Maybe the third edition will be written with a little more thought and at least provide necessary practice problems in it---come on Kaplan lets get it together!!!. There are plenty of us on SDN who have plenty of practice problems you can use. Get your head out of your ass Kaplan and pay a little more respect to us pre-dents---you are truly the only effective review program we have---please---we need more practice problems, as well as better lessons in Bio (ecology, classification, etc.) and math. Healthcare is changing with dentistry taking the lead---keep up with the pace Kaplan---DAT is more important than MCAT now 😉 Where did Princeton review go when we need them🙁

Sorry for that randomness SDN---I had to get that out😀 😛

Actually, I used the Kaplan book from the Kaplan courses, and it provided plenty of practice problems at the end of each chapter.

I got the book from a friend who had recently completed the course.

I never thought about the commercial book not having problems, so your point is well taken.

Something the students deserve, that is for sure.
