If I didn't check any schools for my DAT scores to be sent to when I was going through the registration process, and I've already taken the test, does that mean my scores don't count or weren't recorded? I scored well and I want to make sure those scores are saved somewhere. Thanks!

Aadsas will have it when you need it. You can't get rid of your score even if you wanted to.

Your scores are there, but it will now cost you $35 to send them to EACH school. If you had checked the schools before you took it, it would have been free. Sorry to break it to you, but it could get costly :/

Can you click to send them to each school before the application cycle begins?

Yeah, it's a common misconception (and a huge money maker) that it costs money to send your score to each individual dental school if you didn't check the school while registering. But, actually if you only checked one school's box, it will be on your app and available for all schools to see!

Where did you all hear that about checking 1 box? I checked them all, because I didn't like the weird, costly policy they advertise. Is there any downside to this that I should know about?

Damn. Looks like I'll have to shell out even more money :/ I should have asked you guys before registering. Oh well, nothing I can do about it now.

I still wouldn't mind knowing where this information is hidden. I'm sure you're all right, because it makes no sense for AADSAS to duplicate your list of schools and not make sure your DAT is sent somehow, but this is the first time I've heard about this. I don't want to propagate it if it's similarly weird myth.

Ah, who reads FAQs anyway? There does appear to be one wrinkle in the scheme of selecting just one school:
Please note that you should contact the ADA to send your DAT scores to any additional dental schools you did not designate in your original DAT application. This will ensure that dental schools received your DAT scores on your ADEA AADSAS application as well as directly from the ADA. Please read the ADA's policy below on releasing DAT scores.

...so they're saying you should send duplicates to schools. I doubt that's really required, but it does support my idea of checking every single box the first time.

The phrases contradict each other but no one has encountered any issues (that I have seen) whether they checked 1 or all boxes.

I'm pretty sure the contradiction has something to do with how score's were sent in the past. I think before full digitization of AADSAS, schools would want official scores from AADSAS. However, now that your whole packet is sent with scores, it is unnecessary. Therefore as long as you pay for a school to receive your primary they will also receive your DAT scores as well.

TLDR: Dental schools will accept your DAT scores that were printed on your primary in lieu of "official" AADSAS DAT scores.

They're technically both "official" but one is a physical copy and the other is attached to your primary application.

Yeah, that is what I thought.

It basically boils down to this:

If you select a SINGLE school, AADSAS will get a copy of your scores.

Since it is AADSAS that sends out your application, they're really the only ones who need an official copy. They store it and add it to your application. The scores on your application may not be "official" in that they weren't sent directly to schools by the ADA. However, I have never seen a school say that they wanted an official score sent to them on top of what was sent in the AADSAS application.

For example, I didn't know a single thing about Case when I applied to take the DAT as a sophomore. I obviously didn't select the school. They got my scores with my AADSAS app when I applied, though, and all was well.

Their verbiage is definitely misleading, and I think they should change it. However, for less informed folks, they can make money off of people going back and sending extra reports... and maybe that's why it stays.

So even if the schools list that they require an official DAT score report on their website, we still don't need to separately send our official scores to the school (and pay $25 bucks)? Are the scores that show up on the AADSAS app "official" scores?

I have NEVER heard of a person having to pay to submit anything extra to a school. The AADSAS scores always work.

No need, sent through AADSAS is sufficient.

I didn't select a school to send the DAT score report to, but if I just send it to one school when the cycle opens, will all the schools get it? Or do I have to send it to each individual school?
