Wondering if we could compile a thread that includes known step 1 cutoff scores for residency programs across a variety of specialties. If if someone knows the cutoff score of a past year and not the current year, please post....

For example, happen to know that Stanford Orthopedics established 190 as a computer screen in 2000. Of course, that was when the passing score for step1 was set at 176.

It is obvious that Prog. Directors can set a variety of computer filters to sieve out desired step 1 scores, AOA status, etc. Eg, check out how you can do it on ERAS... http://www.aamc.org/programs/eras/programs/techsupport/filtsort.htm

I'm sure with the SDN's huge community of medical students, residents, faculty, etc. representing so many programs, we could really go a long way into shedding some light on one of the most asked questions....

I don't have any data to add, but thanks for that link, Mustafa. It shows us just how residency programs can electronically filter us out before our apps even have a chance to grace the screen of their computer. I'm hoping that my app doesn't become "AOA filtrate."

Stanford, the University of Connecticut, and Harvard are schools that do not have AOA Chapters. As a result, NOONE from these schools is AOA.

Do these applicants check off the "No" box to AOA or is there an option that lets PDs know there is indeed no AOA chapter at the school.

Also what happens to these applicants on the "AOA Filter"? Are they screened out?

There is an option for students at schools without AOA that lets PD's know that their school does not have AOA.

Just a side note, I believe the 3 schools without AOA are Stanford, Harvard, and UCSD. They are the only 3 schools without chapters, unless a school in the last couple of years has disbanded their AOA. UConn does participate in AOA, as far as I know.

the cutoff for MGH Radiology is 5,948,232.

Actually UConn does not participate in AOA.

Being a recent Graduate of UConn (2002), I can confirm the rumor that UConn does not have AOA.

Mayo does not have and never has had AOA.

But there sure are a lot of AOA certificates hanging in the physician's offices. 😛

to clarify...that the average for optho, not the cut off used by screeners...since that was the original question....

The thing is you can be elected AOA after you graduate, as a resident, as a fellow, or even as an attending for making outstanding contributions to medicine.
