It seems that most Family Practice and Internal Medicine docs in practice get a day off during the week. Is the same commonplace for docs in Path?

I would say most don't, but some do. One of the folks leaving my program this year is going to a 4 day a week job.

day off? in middle of week?? you mean to play golf??? you gotta be kidding?? if the pathologist isnt in the hospital 5 days a week 7 till 7 the surgeons scream bloody murder....espeically if you work in a small community hospital. They expect the pathologist to work the hours they DON'T. Also they wan tthe pathologist to be available for emergency frozens and consultations 7 days a week 365 days a year. In some ways a pathologist in a small comiunity hospital has it tougher than a GP. Of course if you decide to work in an academic or large medical center setting then maybe you get a M-F job 8-5 pm with occasional weekend rotations and a week of call every 6 weeks....
