Dear OMFS residents, how important is doing research in dental school for OMFS applications?

I just took the cbse and I’m fairly involved in school. Can y’all please advise me on whether pursing research will help with residency. I do enjoy research but if it’s not going to help me much, I’d rather go take weekly classes on one of my hobbies. Much thanks in advance
