That is a really good question about the meal plans. I haven't heard anything, but would love to know about it as well.

WOW! Page 4 already! I think this thread may be an SDN record.:D

I didn't know they had meal plans!!! Screw meal plans anyways, at the end you end up paying too much! People usually end up getting tired of the same lame food and start eating at other places and you end up losing meals (money)!

I doubt they make med students pay for meal plans. Those tend to be an undergrad thing.

I heard somewhere (Mr. Carney maybe?) that the single and those w/out kids may be required to buy a meal plan.

BTW, Dr. I what does MCS 2011 mean is your sig.? Are you not joining us at DCOM?

Does anyone one know exactly how much we are going to get with the stafford loans? I know the max is 38500 but when I went to my interview, Pat had mentioned that we would actually get more than that because our schedule is based on 10 months as opposed to 9 months.

I believe it means medical school 2011, sorry dr.I for answering your question or assuming.lol

I am very anti-meal plan too! I can't eat on a strict schedule. When I used to be on a meal plan I had to each lunch around 2 because of my schedule and then I was supposed to be hungry again by 6 for dinner. I hope they don't force us to buy meals plans, or that is just going to be money wasted for me.

If that's the case I might have to get married and have a kid in the next 4 months!

switching subjects...

We do get to keep those computers right? They don't want them back in four years do they?

If you're correct, then it's all good.

You are correct: Medical School Class 2011.

As if computers last 4 years +pissed+

I don't know about you, but my laptop has lasted 5 years and counting. Quit downloading kiddy porn, and you'll be okay.

That's funny but very sick!
My labtop is going on four years, and it is still going strong. It must be from my lack of child pornography.

Does anyone know if the student apartments will have wireless internet?

Aawwe maaan....but that's the only reason I have one

I don't know about wireless, but Dr. Leo did say that they are running a data line from the DCOM building to the apartments....that means you'll be getting better than broadband connection speed out of the wired connections.

Aawwe maaan....but that's the only reason I have one

Figures. Ever heard back from DCOM by the way? I'm sure you have, the others have ...

Does anyone know if the student apartments will have wireless internet?

I'm sure they will be wireless. It makes more sense and it cost less than running wires.

Hey, did anyone interviewing today get some info on how much of the class is full?

Today Dr. Leo said that they are working on getting wireless, but because the walls are concrete it presents a problem... although he still expects that each apt will have it. Also, for who is wondering, he did say that there are still a few spots left in the class, and that interviewing ends next week.

Perhaps we can just use Docmom's farm for our meal plan :beat:

Sorry Docmom, had to use the smiley again.

Personally, I like the meal plan b/c there is going to be a designated lunch time anyway, so the schedule will be structured. The food wasn't half bad either during the interview. I've never had a meal plan before for school, so I will definately be using it b/c I don't feel like having to make a lunch everyday, or having to :beat: one of Docmom's animals for food.

Hmmm, again reflecting this thread! :welcome: Hello Dr. Leo and Mr. Carney :)

HELLO!!! I AM SO EXCITED!!! I am moving in May and will stop in and see y'all!:biglove:  :biglove:  :biglove:

BTW, I  the new smileys! I know, I am a total dork.

Hey, did anyone interviewing today get some info on how much of the class is full?

I didn't interview today, but I got an email this morning from Paul Carney:

"Our class of 150 students is just over 2/3 full. Additionally, as we
are now into April the most competitive medical schools are mailing out
their offer letters. We are starting to experience a trickle of
attrition as students who have secured their place in the class with a
$2,000 matriculation deposit have withdrawn from the class.

As of right now approximately half of the applicants who were placed on
the alternate list have contacted me to remain on the list. (About 125
out of 250) Only those applicants will be considered for admission if
space is available."

I love the welcome smiley! Not that anyone was doubting it, but DCOM definitely reads the threads. During my interview, SDN was mentioned.

 NOOOOO!!!! WE NEED MEAL PLANS STAT!!!!

My animals are for enjoyment, not consumption.;)

I want a meal plan too. I think we will have to get one. We will be on campus all day. I need food and coffee!

Can I have the deposits from students who have decided to go to other schools? I might not have to take out any loans if I could get my hands on several of those $2000 deposits!

I think meal plans are great for certain students, especially those who can't drive 2 minutes and be in their kitchens. I just don't think every student should be forced to buy a meal plan.

I know what you mean about the caffeine thing. I hope they have free coffee and soda all day long. I would definitely buy some sort of beverage plan!

Me without a diet coke every 20 minutes -

Sorry to hear about the waitlist. I think that a number of people will be taken off of it. :luck:

I can't believe the class is not more full than that. If there are 125 who wait to remain on the waitlist and about a third of the spots left now, then I think that there will be lots of very happy people soon. I figured a number of people were holding DCOM as a safety school, so I am not suprised about that. I wouldn't be suprised if those numbers of people attending go down even more. But, I will be there and will be very proud of it!:biglove:

Potential very good news for MJB and Mrs. MJB...but I don't wanna jinx it.....waiting for a phone call.

:hungover:

Glad to hear the recent updates.

 Keeping my fingers crossed.:luck: :luck: :luck:

LOL! That is me without coffee. Yea, I don't think they should force you. But, I definitely want one if I can get one.

So if there are still 50 seats left and they still have quite a while -through the end of April- I'd say it might be possible that half the waitlist gets pulled.

:luck: :hardy:  Good luck to everyone waiting :luck: :hardy:

I am going to use these new smilies on everything! :hijacked:

Cool thanks bro! Hey man, so are you into racing cars?! Do you race your own? I used to do some street racing!

I love racing, but unfortunately, don't have my own. I've been a NASCAR fan for as long as I can remember and have gotten into IRL as well...CART just plain sucks. The closest I come to actual racing is at a place near my city. It is indoor karting...no, they are not go-karts like you see at your family fun center...but actual racing karts where er have to where helmets, neck braces, driving suits, etc. They go about 35 mph but feel much faster than that b/c your only an inch off the ground. It is a blast to do with a group of friends, especially bachelor parties. Hopefully one day I will be able to do some oval racing, but we'll see. I have done a ride-along in a NASCAR racecar at 160 mph, BUT I WANT TO DRIVE!!! The Mrs. told me that I can do a weekend driving school after graduating from med school and I plan on taking her up on that too.

Those smiles are addictive!:hello: :biglove: Way too cute!

That is kind of what I am thinking about the waitlist too. I wish everyone on it lots of luck!:luck:

LMAO! I do that all the time. It takes me so long to post sometimes, that by the time the post goes through, it is no longer relevant.

This post is just for Dr. Inviz who LOVES the smileys!

:biglove:   :hello: :welcome:     ;)

Anybody hear how much the meal programs are gonna be for med students..

:hello:
The way I've figured it up with 2 packs of Ramen noodles a day, at 18 cents a pack and with 40 weeks of classes the meal plan I'm going to be using will run me $100.80.

As for the LMU meal plan I have no intention of buying this. At this stage in my life I'm pretty sure I can handle eating on my own.

Dr. Jamie: I know what you're thinking. "He lost his microwave. How can he say he can handle that?" The statement is duly noted and I stick by my statement that my microwave is simply "permanently misplaced". :bullcrap:

A few schools require everyone to complete "Medical Terminology: A Short Course" isbn: 1-4160-0165-4 before they matriculate. It is not a real class, just a book. I went ahead and ordered it and it is a fantastic book -short, color, and easy. It breaks down the terminology and uses vignettes and case studies. It was $25 bucks (new) on Amazon.

Ex. A 36-yr old woman know to have type 1 diabetes mellitus was brought to the ER after being found collapsed in her home. She had experienced 3 days of extreme weakness, polyuria, and polydipsia. It was discovered that a few days prior to her admission she had discontinued her insulin in a suicide attempt.

Define: Insulin, polydipsia, polyuria, and type 1 diabetes mellitus

This was a fairly easy one, but I thought it would be in TZ's honor.

It also shows test results like x-rays (break and 6-wks later), pet, ct, etc.
