Deferred interview decision =

"We didn't think you were cool enough to interview, but if by some random chance we run out of the type of candidate we consider worthy (it hasn't happened in past 20+ years, but it could, I suppose), we might, perhaps, possibly re-review your application and maybe grant an interview invite. Plus, we're just feeling too darn lazy to bother with continual batches of rejections, preferring to send all the rejections at the same time. Yes, we know that you already know you've been rejected and that the letter confirmation 2-3 months later is in poor taste, but tough titties, we're _____ (NYU, UPenn, Michigan, etc.)."

Yeah, they also say that they will be reviewing apps until March 2006. That's so misleading! They probably stop sending out interview invites soon, just like Harvard, Yale, etc.

if one thing.. you have to love the politically correct terminology of this whole process.

I think "deferred interview" might be a euphemism for rejected post-secondary.

I think it's just cruel. Most of us just need to see the "NO!" so we could get on with our lives. To make us wait any longer for no apparent reason is just unjustifiable.
The whole application process has been hell. I'm an international student with a 4.0 GPA and a 40S Mcat score and I've been ran through dirt all over the place on the sole basis of my nationality. And now Penn is messing with my head. Just give me some kind of strict response already.
