My husband is on waitlists at several places. He got an email from a Dean of Admissions this morning asking him to call. We think this means he's likely to be offered a place. This was his first choice school amongst all his waitlists. However, due to some recent changes (expecting a baby in the fall, completion of his Ph.D. pushed back) it's not possible for him to accept the spot for this fall. Ideally, he'd like to defer. Does anyone know if it's possible to defer off the waitlist? I've heard that sometimes it's a "now or never" type thing.
