Hey guys. I am planning on deferring this year. I got accepted to Nwestern so its not a big deal to defer there, at least I think so. But what about schools to where I am waitlisted. Should I tell them that I want to defer. Do you think it will hurt my chances or better my chances. I am going to defer regardless, but I think if it helps I might as well do it earlier. Finally, how should I go about deferring. I really don't have like a life threating issue to defer for. I just want to live in Spain for a year and learn spanish and chill out.

If you tell the schools at which you are waitlisted, I think it will better the chances of every one else on the waitlist...because you'll be taken off.

Deferring isn't alwasy easy. You usually need a good reason. I'd check with the individual schools you're accepted to to see if they'll allow it.

No question. And don't count on being able to defer at the school to which you are accepted until they say yes -- class numbers are a carefully regulated thing, and schools are not always amenable to you gumming up the works by taking off a year.
