Delay step 1 - how bad is it for residency app?

Hello,

I would really appreciate some advice on this from attending physicians or faculty members.

At my school, we can delay step 1 by about a month. This means postponing our first clerkship, but still graduating on time.

However, the delay will show up on our residency application.

How bad will this look for residency application? (Not for highly-competitive specialties.)

Thanks!

How would this ever show up? People delay all the time, or take "study rotations" nobody cares. Get a good score

I'm assuming you have studied, taken your NBMEs and your practice score is not adequate?
Delaying is much better than failing the exam. If you get the score you want and everything else is OK with your application, I wouldn't stress it too much.

I delayed by a month and still graduated on time. I think it was a non-issue as I matched on my first try.

Legit won’t matter. Probably the top person in my class had to delay step one. You only lose a block fourth year to make it up.

Im taking off block 1 to study for Step 2 CK
