Hello! I am a 2020-2021 applicant.
I have only ever wanted to go to DO school and really, really, really want to go to PCOM (top choice) or NYITCOM - Old Westbury. (I am OOS)

GPA
Overall: 3.88
Science: 3.89

This is where it gets bad...
MCAT: 499 (124/123/125/127)

I felt unwell during CARS/CP but tried to push through... and it shows when I felt better during BB/PS :/

Anyways... the 123 in CARS is definitely NOT good.

Will my stats be okay? I have been so worried and stressed.

Thank you!

Are you applying this cycle (2020-2021)? If not, do a retake. If you don’t want to do a retake, you might have a shot at the very new schools like ICOM.

I am applying this cycle. I have strong recommendations and feel that I can squeeze in but I would really like to explore and go OOS. I know that some schools take MCAT updates in January. So I was thinking maybe start studying again and if I feel good in December then I retake it in January and see what happens.

I would retake the MCAT to open more doors. I think VCOM's average MCAT is around 500, I'd apply there if you don't retake the MCAT.

I went to a school associated with VCOM and know many people and have family that went there, so I am definitely applying.

Stats are not the only thing. How about your clinical experience and knowledge of osteopathic medicine? Fill out a WAMC template for a true analysis.

I absolutely would, but I don't want to put identifiable information out on the internet.

My main focus is on nutrition and exercise. I do have research in a wet lab on exercise and disease, but when I really started learning... COVID. I have a community service project I have been doing consistently for over a decade, another for a while too, and a few others. I worked in college and was a health educator. For clinical, I did hospice, shadowed, and scribed. COVID really messed up a lot for me (for many others, too, of course). I lost many of these and other exciting planned opportunities, like growing in my job at school, but I found some community service projects in my area because people are really struggling right now!!

Basically, I love health education, preventive medicine, primary care, and volunteering in underserved communities.

I maxed out on my letters and got one from a DO.

Many have used the Confidential Consult section (Ask Your Question) for confidential feedback. Yes, you should still be smart about sharing personally identifiable information, but CC helps with that.

RIP NYITCOM-NY lol but thank you! I will definitely be adding some of these to my list.

Thanks for sharing! I will look into it. 🙂
Do you think what I have is enough to get an interview? I feel that just maybeeee I could make it if I get my foot in the door but of course, this is a lot of wishful thinking since there are many qualified applicants.
