Demonstrating cultural competence ?????

Hi guys,
Iam trying to finish MCO secondoray and I am having trouble writing the essay about how I have demonstrated cultural competence.I dont know what to write. Any tips or ideas? Please help. Thanks in advance.

Problem with that question is that they define C.C. in a strict medical sense. Hard to speak of demonstrating C.C. in delivery of health care when you've yet to go to med school. I started by saying that I have none related to health care delivery; however, .........exposure to array of socioeconomic and culturaly diverse etc......

Hey Optimistic, I know exactly what you're talking about. I thought for a long time before I wrote that essay. Finally, I decided to write about my experiences tutoring international students (primarily Chinese) while working at our college's writing center. We have a bunch of international students here,and that afforded me a great opportunity to write about - unfortunately, it took me about four days to realize it before I started writing the essay. I wrote about my tutoring work with children and adults of a different ethnic bacground than myself...what I learned from it, etc.

Exactly, that is my point.I have experience of working with paients from various cultural backrounds and I myself grew up in a different country but I dont know how I can come up with example of cultural competence in health care. Iam confused. I mean I cant't even B.S on this one.oh well. Thanks very much people for your help.I will see what I can do. <img src="confused.gif" border="0">

I don't think the answer has to be strictly medical. Mostly, they seem to be looking for people who have had exposure to different cultures and successfully handled that. It was definitely a tough question, though. Lotsa thinkin' involved. Good luck!
