Hey dents

I'm a predent whose curious on the opportunities out there in dentistry. well I'm hearing a lot
about dental anesthesiology and dental radiology. Are these up and coming specialties in
dentistry? What are the differences between these specialties and their M.D counterparts?
Are the M.D anesth./radio's not qualified to perform dental duties? and are DDS
anesth's/radio's qualified to do the same duties as their M.D counterparts?

Iwould be interested in the sources that you are hearing about dental anesthesiology and radiology as they are rather obscure specialties in my opinion. They are specialist that I as a practicing general dentist would refer patients to. I wouldn't put them in the same category as oral surgeons periodontists endodontists etc. Dental anesthesiologist are anesthesiologist who went to dental school before doing a anes. residency. In my experience they do exactly the same job as a M.D. However if you are an oral surgeon or peds. dentist doing OR cases you might prefer a dental anes. as you would have to explain to him why a nasal airway is the only way for you to do your job. The dental radiologist is an even rarer "bird" they are usualy only found as the head of radiology at a dental school. I'm unsure as to their training I believe there is a masters program perhaps at Indiana?

the sentence should read "would not refer to".
