It has been brought up before, and I am aware of residents who have previously been successful with getting their loans switched to "In school deferment" during residency as opposed to forbearance, which is the default option now.

However, when I call, they act like I'm crazy, despite citing loan forms that state this is the case.

Is an example of one such form, section 7.

Also, from the ADEA.

If you are in a hospital based residency you have to do forebearance. If you are in a university based residency and take classes through the university as a credit load you can qualify for deferment. I did a gpr last year and had to do forebearance, but I got into I university based residency and was able to go into deferment for the next 2 years.
