Dental school knowledge of Reapplicants

Does anybody know how (or if) dental schools know you have previously applied to their school unless you explicitly tell them?

Also, do you think this has a positive or negative spin on the application?

my shadowed dentist told me that they do not like reapplicants and he used to be an adcom. I am freaked after he told me this

On AADSAS it specifically asks if you have ever applied to dental school before and which ones. I have been told by several schools that they like reapplicants especially if you keep in touch because you are showing a great interest in their school.
