Hey guys, so I am applying to dental school this cycle and have applied to 9 schools so far. I now wish to apply to the three Texas schools as well. However, they require statistics and I have not taken statistics yet. I am graduating in December so I am now trying to get force-added into statistics, which will put me at a heavy course load (20 credit hours), and I also work 20 hr/week. With interviewing, I think this will be very difficult. So, I am trying to take one of my liberal arts courses that is just to graduate as a credit/no credit to make it easier, and I am also considering not doing research this last semester. I just feel like I will already have so much on my plate, and that dropping research would give me more time to get my work done.

Basically, my question is, given the circumstances, will dental schools care if I drop research for this semester? Would you recommend that I call and ask each school individually? Also, how would I notify schools of this change?

Thanks for any input.

Assuming you documented research on your application for this year, I would call/email and explain the situation to each school. You don't want to have to bring it up during the interview.

Not worth changing up your whole situation for the texas schools that only let in 2-3 OOS kids a year, unless your stats are god tier.

My stats aren't "god tier" but pretty good. oGPA 3.99, science GPA 4.00, 24 AA, 24 TS, 22 PAT (nothing below 22)...do you think I would still have a chance? I don't have like a 27 DAT but I think the cheaper cost at the Texas schools, even for out of state, is really tempting plus as a Spanish major I'd love to work with Hispanic communities there 🙂

If those aren't "god tier" then I don't want to know where I stand...

Your stats are God tier and you stand a chance especially now that you mention your Spanish major etc.

"Oh yeah my stats aren't god tier but my DAT is in the 99% tile and my GPA is perfect."
Sorry I didn't mean to come off as pretentious! I am actually just concerned because they accept such few students and I don't want to waste time and money applying and then you never know, but thanks I'll take it as a compliment. I wish you the best of luck applying too if you are this cycle 🙂
