If you paid the first deposit to hold your spot at a school, but choose not to attend the school - do they charge you additional penalty fees or anything - or are you just withdrawn from the school?

You just lose the deposit. They can't really come after you for anything else, since you don't owe them money if you're not attending. It may take them a while to process your withdrawal, too, and in the interim you might get info about orientation, etc. Just make sure you confirm in writing and/or by phone/e-mail that you're really not planning to attend.
