can someone please give me some advice? i have a 3.9ish from a university. i took the mcat in april, and got in the high 20s. i decided to take the mcat again in august, and applied to a bunch of schools. when i got my august mcat score, not only was my score lower than a 30 (but still in high 20s), it was a point lower than my original score from april. I know a point isn't a big deal, but i got a 6 on verbal this time around, which was lower than the first time (and first time was already bad, but this time it was worse).

I can't believe i spent my whole summer studying, so in the end my application could come out worse.

what do you think i should do? take the mcat a third time? withdraw my application when i've already spent 3k?

thanks in advance

Honestly, many would agree that a score in the high 20s is still a good score. Maybe apply to some DO schools in addition to your MD programs. But it will be okay, plenty of people get into medical school with a score in the high 20s. Good luck! 🙂

Hi MRwannabeDR, we are on the same boat. I am a post-bacc with 3.9ish from a university. My april mcat score was 26 with 4 on verbal. I retook the august mcat, and only my verbal improved 2 points. I got 28 with 6 on verbal. I am kind of nervous as well. feel free to email or private message me.

Does anyone have the similar situation? 🙁

Definitely don't withdraw your application. You never know what could happen depending on the rest of your application and where you are applying. How in the world did you spend 3k?

However, I would recommend preparing for the test a third time and focusing on verbal. Get some books that specifically address that section. It is true that many people get in with scores in the high 20s, but a more balanced score would definitely help your application.

the costs comes from taking the mcat twice, applying to a bunch of schools, secondaries, TPR course cost, mail cost, rec letter service cost, etc

ive used TPR, TBR, and EK.. what else should i use? kaplan? would that really help me? I did all EK 101 passages, averaged a 9. I did AAMC test 3-8, and averaged a 9 on verbal. (which was am improvement because i averaged a 7 on verbal the first time i took the mcat, april 2005)

and then i get a 6 on verbal.. this was so unexpected. i think its cuz 1) i got nervous 2) i was hungry 3) i rushed through it, cuz i didn't get to finish PS earlier... had to guess on some questions (which is ironic cuz i got an 11 in PS)

the injustice.. mcats are so messed up. basically, my verbal score says i'm a fob when 1) i was born in the US 2) i was raised in the US and went to US schools. my SAT verbal is even higher, and I have some school activities/positions that i couldnt have gotten if i didn't know how to communicate. in addition, the PS and BS sections also require reading comprehension.

man fck the mcat.. i worked so hard in school and the mcat, to see my chances ruined cuz of verbal. the mcat should have an individual math section, i know i would do well on that. ::: bitter:::
