Derm Residents only work 44 hrs/week?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I was just looking at the ave. hours per week for most specialities and most non-surgical specialities are from 45-60. I was under the impression that you work almost 80 hours per week. I guess I was wrong in my thinking?

Do they break down the averages by years? A lot of older semi-retired types or folks working part time schedules could pull down the average pretty quickly. I would bet the younger post-residency crowd works longer hours than that. Most specialists of recent vintage I have met work in the 60-70 hour range. (ED docs often work shorter hours than that but are sometimes all in a row.)

I think that those numbers are just for reisdents.

I know a few derm residents who work a heck of a lot longer than that and who spend 2-3 hours/day outside of work reading/studying derm.

Some of the path residents I know might work 40 if they're on call ;)
