I was wondering if anyone has heard of this alternative to a derm residency that I have heard about....

Can you please verify the following:
I heard that you can find a dermatology preceptor who is willing to employ you and train you to become a dermatologist if you are one of the many students who does not get accepted into a residency program. I was wondering if, number 1, is this true? and number 2, if so, can you sit for Derm boards and get board certified?

    Thanks,
    marymcg

There is no preceptorship available that will allow you to sit for MD Derm board or DO derm board. Many years back, preceptorship exists and doctors who finish training under another dermatologists may sit for the board. That is no longer available.
