Desi Female Chat

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I shut down the other forum since I felt it was unfair to have a forum where females couldn't speak. I think that should be on a different website not just a different thread. Plus in hind sight i kinda got carried away with some stuff and i realize that this was wrong.

I would like to offer an apology to Tink and to Diesel. They were just sharing their opinions and i should have created a more friendly enviorment(or atleast posted different questions that everyone could discuss) for them to share it. While I still meant most of what I said I don't think I should have asked you to stop posting.

HAHAHAHAHA. I think they should one day make a movie in bollywood strictly from the point of the villan.

Make it like a comedy about a villan who just sucks at everything he does and then he finds love and stops being a villan. Kinda like a comedy romance.

Definite lounge thread in the making 👍

I've experienced the opposite -- most female desi physicians I've met are married (to physicians of course, ). My mom's a pediatrician (dad's an engineer -- woah, how could it be, how could it be?!).. Lots of my aunts are physicians and got married in medical school, and lots of my female cousins are doctors and either engaged or married with children. Most got engaged in medical school. Plus I've been traveling for interviews in different cities, and many times I've stayed with relatives, so I've gone to random desi get-togethers in these cities and once again met married desi female docs. There's hope yet, ladies! Seriously though, it definitely eased my worries... 👍

I hope to marry a desi female physician. I don't think I could deal with a ditzy wife. I want someone wit my intelligence or higher. I am trying to pick a desi girl cause in my experience most of the white girls i know are somewhat ditzy(want another beer?) 🙂 There are intellectual & cute white girls but they go for the rich white guys or the hot white guys. 🙁

a few things:

-i think many desi girl docs (or their controlling parents) want someone in that same income level (not for materialistic reasons, but for the ego/self-esteem of the average desi man, who may get insecure if his wife makes more than him)

- a lot of desi girl docs (or their controlling parents) want someone who also has higher education, whether it's a masters or phd in something

- many desi girl docs just keep going on ahead with their stuff, like going straight to residency, then fellowship, and finally when they get to an attending position, they feel relieved and ready to get married. Unfortunately, by old-school desi mentality, they are now too old.

disclaimer: the above is just from what i have seen. there are MANY exceptions.

whoa dude....hold up with the horses. every race has their ditzy girls ;-) but i definately think the intelligence thing is important. i dunno about you guys and gals... but I'll give you an example of a common sense thing that if you go to india and get a girl/guy, for some reason isn't there. ok, so my cousins just got married in india last year and their wives came here in august. I went there for a couple weeks to hang out and one of the bhabi's put ice cream in the fridge instead of the freezer when they brought it back from the store.... now, even though I'd love my wife, I have a love for haagen daaz butter pecan ice cream. so see, it's just one simple little thing, but there are plenty of those little things that just don't make sense for me to go to india to find a wife (this is getting back to the other thread question). then I made a bet with my uncle, cuz we always play a game called spider solitaire on the computer, that if I can find a girl that can beat the game on the 4 suit deck (u'd know what i'm talkin about if you played the game) then I'd marry her. I wasn't for real, but just a joke that means something about intelligence/common sense. sorry..incessant rambling stopping...now.

So, do you mean Indian ladies don't know the difference between refrigerator and a freezer? 😕 How can you generalize such things? Any way, Good Luck in your life finding a partner (I mean it in most sincere way. No sarcasam).

no dude, i didn't generalize at all. I gave you an example of thing I found. i didn't say ALL of them are the same. chillax.

ufff why do these desi threads all the time end up being about desi guys, desi girls, marriage, abcds, fobs, etc

Yeah I got something else to talk about. I want to go back and teach in Pakistan/India/Bangladesh. I was thinking of after practicing a few years of medicine to go back and teach.

You won't make as much money but hopefully your debt will be payed off(or you are going debt free straight outa medschool like me).

A lot of our parents got educated in pakistan/india/bangladesh and then abandoned the country in better lives for themselves. They often got free educations from the state. I think it would only be right that we go back and do some work to help the countries out. Has anyone else thought about going back?

Also I am interested in making a charity that goes back to south asia to build schools(and possibly houses) in poor areas with a low level of education. I don't know if any of you are interested in helping me but if you are PM me for details. Does anyone else want to do this project with me?

Some good ideas you got there.
Sure id be willing to help you out...
I was thinking of setting up a scholarship fund sorta thing whereby I can pay for the school and college education of kids back home who cant afford it. well, only if I have enough $ to do so one day...

Well...this is my first post on SDN (and found it a really good source of premed info) cause I just got into it and of course, being indian, due to curiosity I ended up reading the desi men thread a few days ago and through that I discovered ratedesi.com.

I don't know if anyone one else thought this, but all I could think was "wow...what a degradation of indian culture"... I don't know, maybe I just saw an unrepresentative sample of young indians in america (few of whom know how to speak it seems).

I don't think I'm better than anyone or anything...but I guess I haven't been exposed to a lot of indians other than family, growing up in a predominantly white town in western PA, going to a 1% minority college, etc.

Well, I was just randomly commenting cause there's so much damn snow and I haven't been able to do anything all day 🙁

I'd agree with you on that!
Some of the posts in the recent desi threads are utterly ridiculous.

Yo dude- the purple dino needed a rest. I was in party mode last semester(hence the hippo) but its time to start working out again(hence the monkey doing situps).

Anyway- I DEFINATELY want to setup a scholarship fund as well. If you want to get together we can definately do this!

I actually have this other goal in my life. for my gaam in india. so we'll see 🙂

I was back in India over break and I got a chance to see some of the
Drs practing out in the small villages. Its really tough so see because all of the doctors have just had enough of the corruption and they all want to come to the US. I decided that I have to go back once I am doctor. The scholarship sounds really good too. I know a couple of different groups back there who can coordinate it. Let me know if you were interested in that.

The thing i don't like about indian/pakistani culture is that it tries to copy america 100 percent.

bollywood (i..e Indian Idol WTF?!?!?!?), this ratedesi.com crap <----- You're all sluts on this website if you do it, faux english accents, and going to mcdonalds because its the cool thing to do. a lot of the "pop" music in india/pakistan is so bad that it pisses me off because my mom watches it all the tiem. If this is modernization of pakistan/india i don't like it at all. It's making the both countries into a sort of botched version of hollywood.

There, when i saw that picture, i just wanted to punch all their lame-brain faux-celebrity images +pissed+

lol- yeah i don't like those phonies that try to act all americanized that never grew up here. They go like "yaaar want to go paahrty?"

The best thing a foreigner can have to hold dignity is to remain true to his/her roots and to learn with an open mind. The "fake it until you make it" mentality is the reason why we have so many of these fake people.

I am sure Flash's parents are one of those people 🙂 "Paahrty yhar? 👍 👍 "

Has any one seen the movie "Wheres the party yaar". Hilarious abcd/fob type movie made in houston, 2002.

This is flash's "fake it until you make it" dad responding - I share my son's assessment that you're a tool. 😎 And if you continue to feel the need to bring me, my mom or dad up in your silly threads, please note that it's flash, not Flash. Tell us again about your SAT score and GPA, all-knowing guardian of remaining true to one's root and being "real", great closer of one lame thread to start another lame one with the same purpose.

Hi ladies,

I'm curious if anyone here is from the caribbean (Trini) with East Indian/South Asian roots?

I fully concur that you cannot stereotype a woman's intelligence level based on her race. I know a plethora of very smart white females, and some desi ignoramuses.

I think that most people are looking for a mate who can understand them and who are interested in similiar things. I mean, I am dating a guy who is a double major in chemistry and computer science. I am a biology and chemistry major. We have common interests and for the most part, understand eachother's interests and vocabulary. I also think that each person should feel like the other is smarter. This will help you feel like you are dating up and to never degrade the other person. It also kind of helps as far as the trust thing is concerned.

As far as salaries go, I think each person has their own preferences to how they want their budget to look like. My roommate is practically engaged to a marine, who has nothing beyond a high school education, and his mother only has a 3rd grade education. The good news? My roommate is lucky enough that after she marries this guy, she gets to put him through police academy and they will support his parents for the rest of their lives.

This idea does not appeal to me at all, but she says that she is in love with him, so it will be worth it. I kind of think that as a principle, the man should be the one who brings home more money. That is just me. I mean, I intend to work, and I know that I am going to bring home a hefty check. So, I think it just depends on the person, and if they feel like showing love for someone is monetary or not...
