  1. Resident [Any Field]
As a medical student on my rad onc rotations I recall several resident using prepared templates for their dictations. Anyone know of a good source for such things or, better yet, willing to share their own? Many thanks, as always.

Eh ... It's not as time-saving as you would think, b/c each case is sort of different, but for early stage breast and prostates, you could potentially save some time. With Dragon and other voice-recognition software, there is some benefit to pre-made templates that you flip from field to field with, but after dictating 1000 early stage breast and prostate follow-ups, nothing is really faster than just ripping through the dictation. For consults, maybe nice to have toxicities, rationale for treatment, consent/sim information, and thank you to referring doc/siggy on template, but seriously, the pre-made stuff hasn't really sped me up.

Does anyone have any software or program that you feel is faster than just ripping through a dictation? We're transitioning away from transcription to Dragon and no matter what I do, it's slower to do Dragon than to dictate, but I guess I don't have to do the revision, so it might be a wash.

  1. Attending Physician
Dont bother. A lot of attendings will have their own personal preferences. There is no one size fits all. Just check out prior notes from each service when you are getting started. Further, it doesn't save much time like sumulD said. You will get in a groove faster than you think.
