i think i have to live off campus since my husband will be working and he needs a parking space.

people are saying that i shouldn't live off campus since the work load is a lot. but i am married, and i am willing to commute...~30 min. am i being too idealistic?

thanks~! your opinion will help a lot!

PW,

It is doable, but i would try to avoid it if necessary. A lady in our class had her first baby back in November--AND she commuted 1.5 hours (just ONE way, so 3 hours round trip) every day to class. So, it is doable.

But, you will find a lot of times you'll have 1, 2 hour gaps in the schedule. In times like that, you could just go to the library to study or the lab to finish some work, but it'd be even nicer to live so close where you can just go home to eat lunch, take a nap, etc. Towers also offers couples housing, and it's pretty nice/cheap!

some schools dont even allow graduate students in dorms. you have to live off campus. Like Nova

^^no gator, at columbia the medical campus is entirely separate from the undergraduate (by a solid 50 blocks). all the housing is available to graduate students in the med campus.

i would highly recommend living on campus, it really doesn't get any cheaper (i'm paying about $640/month right now, with water/electricity/internet included). granted, it's nicer off-campus, but for the $$$ and convenience worth, it's pretty good.
