I was told by an advisor to just save publications for update letter. I had a manuscript that I was second author of get accepted for publication a while back (after I submitted my primary). However, I see that a lot of people said to mention publication in secondary (gap year essay instead) since schools don't look at updates/place low value on them.

I already submitted my secondaries to half of my schools already (in my gap year essay I just mentioned my activities but not publication -> since there was barely any space). Just wanted to get an opinion on whether I should make room for the publication on my gap year essays or save for update letter? If I do send update letters, when should I send?

oh ya my PI did include this in her letter for me, idk if I should still mention it still?

thanks!

Are these new publications, or publications completed during your gap year? If they're already published and were done as part of your gap year I see no reason why you shouldn't include them?

Hi thanks for the reply! So the publication was for a lab I stopped going after I graduated college, it just took a while for it get accepted.

Okay, since the secondary question you mentioned was phrased along the lines of "gap year essay" and since the research associated for that wasn't part of a gap year experience, I would leave it out. If a school is asking for gap year experiences, I would only focus on what you've done post undergrad
