Went to college in NY: Called it Orgo.....worst class, worst grade in college ugh....so glad I don't need to take it ever again!

CA here....and it's definitely OChem :D.... what the heck does Orgo even mean?

Virginia. I called it organic, but it seemed like everyone else called it orgo or o-chem

Oregon and "O-Chem"! I called it "Orgo" once in high school after reading that abbreviation, and I got weird looks. And, referring to something mentioned on the first page, I call economics "econ" -- never heard of "ec".

bahahaha I love this thread! The conclusion was reached years ago (literally).

CA:
OChem
GChem (I've heard Gen Chem)
PChem
Analytical
Inorganic
Econ
Soda

or of course the number/letter of the course

New York - Orgo definitely.

wow. this thread is almost a decade old!

I'm from the south and I call it hell.

Since hell is not a choice, I'll go with Orgo. Although I called it WhOrgo. Which we took after Gen Chem.

Georgia counts as east coast, right? It does have an Atlantic coastline ...

New Jersey representing, Orgo.
This might be the most epic thread revival ever, back from the dead from 2002, we didnt even have iPhones back then.

Most of us probably didn't even have cell phones

I'm still pretty offended by "orgo"... it just sounds so horrible

also, Pop and soda are both said here but "soda" is more formal if that makes sense?

and nobody says coke here unless they want a coke

--midwest

man where did orgo come from anyway
there's only one o in organic and none in chemistry ಠ_ಠ

orga would be more awesome

West coast: o-chem

Edit: also I played piggy-in-the-middle when I was a kid

...Are you referring to monkey in the middle? I'm in CA now but didn't grow up here so..

We call it Orgo here at Johns Hopkins

Louisiana:

Organic
Gchem
Pchem
Quant (Quantitative analysis)

UC Davis. We say OChem.

This thread is sort of like that ongoing argument between Northern Californians and Southern Californians about the use of "hella."

Midwest - Orgo. It's like the relationship between "lottery" and "lotto." It doesn't have to make sense. Plus, "orgo" is more amenable to being said in a despairing wail.

E.g. "Cuuuuuurse yoooou, Orgooooooooo"
vs.
"Cuuuuurse yoou, Orrrrgaaaannniiiicccc" = too drawn out

UW-Madison. Everyone. EVERYONE class it Ochem. Orgo doesn't even make sense.

California - Ochem

Orgo makes no sense and I cringe whenever I read it

Damn, this thread just won't die. 12 years and going strong. Even if you were just a freshman in college when this thread started, you'd have (probably) finished residency by now.

Anyways, I'm from Texas and everyone says Ochem.

Florida, Orgo. Never heard anyone say "organic".

I wonder what they call it in Britain :D

California, O-Chem. Other than on here, I've never heard of anyone calling it orgo.
