Comparing prices: Hospitals must now list prices for procedures

I've found it very helpful in helping patients make decisions about whether to try a ESI or PRP injection first or go straight for a discectomy or arthroscopy procedure. It really opens up the conversation especially about SOS differential issues.

Looking at their prices just makes me feel poor

yes we have a price checker but it doesn't cover much, I don't see any pain procedures currently listed

There is a link to the pdf for the hospital.

In addition, my system has an online resource site that you can send an email or call with patient demographics and cpt code and get personalized cost estimate...

Time and again, drusso, my experience is that patients don’t care what the hospital bills. They only complain about their copay.

It'll be interesting to see if this changes provider behavior. Now you can see what the charge is for drug X, implant Y, or procedure Z readily in your system

I wonder if it will also hurt the hospitals with pricing negotiations as now their numbers are clearly shown
