    Hi all,

I'm a MS4 at UCSF, got a 222 on my boards and no honors in 3rd yr.
I'm trying to decide between Gas and ER but don't know if I'm comp in either.
I'm trying to stay in Nor Cal area, or close to it for family. Can anyone help?

    Thanks

There are some great Family Medicine residencies south of the border that may take you, provided you speak fluent spanish. As for EM, I think you need to come from a stronger school to match....Seriously, look at the FAQ's. You will be fine.

What FAQ's... Does it really matter what school you come from?
It seems like all the Cali schools are extremely competitive and I can't seem to get a straight answer on if you need honors to get into the Nor Cal schools.
Does anyone know anything about the Davis program?

Honors on year 3 rotations are good but not essential. Much more important is your grades and standard letter of recommendation from EM rotations in academic programs in year 4.

Given what you've told us so far, you will match in EM unless you are a interpersonal disaster. Matching to one of the 4 Nor Cal programs may be a little tougher to predict.

If you want to see some data, go to the search function above, select advanced search, then select threads started by BKN.

If it raises further questions, PM me. Relax, you're good

    No big deal....

According to SAEM, the most important aspect of your ER application is your 4th year ER rotation performance and grade (Honoring is huge!). Be a superstar, and get a strong LOR (standardized form) from a ER program director.
