Do various editions of a given mcat book contain different practice tests? Or from experience, are they the same test but just updated in presentation style..

In general, no one writes all-new tests because it is so expensive and time-consuming to do so. They will update for format changes and topic shifts from year to year, but not rewrite the whole test unless they absolutely have to.
