Hi guys,

Do you all think that it will help you if you fill out the disadvantaged section on Amcas? Or, would adcom look down on it? What are they trying to get to thru this information?

Please respnond.
Thanks

Well, this is totally useless, I know, but it really would be different for everyone. They will look down on a trivial disadvantage, yes. What's trivial? That's up to you.

If you have experienced a genuine disadvantage, then by all means write about it. In my experience, stories that demonstrate your abilities to succeed in the face of adversity are very compelling to adcoms. You should go beyond the "working part-time in college" tale, that would probably be considered trivial, but descriptions of family situations, economic/social disadvantages you've experienced, or unique physical challenges would all be good candidates for this essay. Keep the writing tight and concise and avoid complaining, and this could be a valuable addition to your application.

Great advice, Cydney!! :) Welcome to SDN!! :D Looks like you will be a great addition to the ranks of SDNers!!!
