Is this strictly for reasons due to economical or racial (or underserved/ under-represented) circumstances? can other personal reasons fit this space?

Where is the space that people keep talking about that we can put in reasons due to personal circumstances? or is this the place to put it?

It is economic, educational, etc.

We didn't have alot (assistance). My mother was bed bound ill (my brother and I cared for her 60 hrs a wk. My parents were not college educated and only one worked ( 3 jobs--technician, truck driver, limo driver). The area was underserved. My extended family lived with me. No one college educated etc. I qualified. Tell your story to them. I grew up in a neighboorhood with prostitutes, hooks, and stripped cars (that were stolen), pit bulls etc.

Yeh, didn't we all. They are there if you look hard enough, even in suburbia. :meanie:

the pit bulls are the worst part. haven't made it to suburbia yet. honestly, i am more afraid of suburbia than the pit bulls and the rotten 10 year old who threw a brick through my car window for kicks.

for OP: I believe there is space for such personal matters on the secondary applications.

I am always amazed where I grew up that pit bulls are the dog of choice of dealers. If there is house around with junkies driving up, you know there is going to be pit bulls. That is fine. However, when they get loose, they often mauled a 3 yr old in the neighborhood. Not a junkie try to steal a brick.

I remember awhile ago I saw a pretty good response to this question: "if you have to ask if you're disadvantaged, you're probably not."

It seems like the worst thing would be to check the box, have to tell your story in an interview, and have the interviewer be thinking "riiiiiiiiiight."

Disclaimer: I was not a disadvantaged applicant.

👍
I think that qualifies, especially the fact of growing up in such a rough area and not having a tradition of college in the family.

Although I do agree that prostitutes and pit bulls do not a bad neighborhood make. 😀
