Hi everyone,
I received an e-mail (they say paper copy in the mail) inviting me to an interview. It's in early November, but in San Francisco. They state that I can call and ask them to interview on their campus. However, I think I might want to save $$$ on plane trips, etc. by doing the San Francisco interview instead of going to Des Moines. I know it's always better to visit the campus, but I figured it's okay because it's not one of my top choices (no offense to DMU, I realize it's a good school, I have other reasons).

What do you guys think of the regional interview? Can any of you that have done an interview away from the campus comment on your experience? The interview day entails: orientation of the college, info on Des Moines, details concerning interview, question/answer panel with current students and interviews start after lunch. The lunch will be with faculty, staff, alumni and DMU students.

I'm surprised on how late the interview is...I've been getting interview invites in late September/early October. Do you think I'll get an earlier interview if I try to go to their campus?

Thanks for your thoughts.

Hi there,

I had my DMU interview in Las Vegas last year (since there was an AOA Convention there concurrently), and I'm now an M1 at DMU. It does save you a lot of money, and the Admissions staff makes a great effort to try to present pertinent information about the school to you, and they were excellent about answering any questions you might have. I didn't know much about DMU when I recieved the interview invite, but I did some research on it before I went and came out of the interview convinced that DMU was one of my top choices, if not the top choice. I don't know how many people attended and were subsequently accepted at last year's regional interview, but 8 of them are in my class now.

The reason that your interview seems to be later in the year is because there is no other reason for DMU's people to be in San Francisco, besides the interviews. There are other conventions and stuff going on in October, I believe, so November is a good time to make that trip. I honestly don't think that interviewing in October versus interviewing in November will have that great a bearing on your chances of being accepted. If this were much later in the process, say March or April, it might be different. But November really isn't that late, and if it's going to save you a couple hundred dollars in travel expenses, it can be a great option.

Good luck!
