DMU or NYCOM

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I would go to DMU 🙂 b/c I'm already there and I'm lovin' every minute of it 😉

Maybe the question should be what exactly are you looking for in a school? You will get a variaty of reasons, but you're gonna have to be more specific as to what you want and then I'm sure people will respond accordingly as to whether or not each college has a good or bad "whatever" that specific issue might be.

I am from NYC area. When I visited DMU, I loved school and their curriculum, especially OMM program. But I want to practice medicine in NY area in someday. NYCOM has great clinical rotation sites in NY area and I heard this is key factor to obtain residency in NY area. Is this true? Also I saw horrible feedbacks about 3rd and 4th years in DMU.
Thanks!

I'm sure that NYCOM has great clinical rotations as they are located in one of the best cities in the world.... there are many hospitals around the area.... Doing rotations at a site will not necessarily guarantee you a position there as a resident.... BUT.... Everyone will tell you that the best thing to do IS to do a rotation at the hospital that you would like to do your residency in because you want to expose yourself to the other residents there.... You want to get the right letters of recommendations....

So it is true, that rotation and residency go hand in hand as more exposure you get at a certain hospital the more likely you'll be a part of their residency program.... that's if they like you. If they don't, no matter how much you want to go their your chances will be slim to none...

DMU has its ups and downs with 3rd and 4th year. This year, hardly anyone complained.... I'm sure if you look hard enough ALL MEDICAL SCHOOLS have good and bad reputation during their 3rd and 4th year. I guess DMU has some very vocal and very frequent visitor of studentdoctor.com thus you see more of what goes on.

Just a few minutes ago, I was sent an email to delete a post regarding AZCOM and their survey because of "NEGATIVE" publicity.... So you may not be hearing the whole story with certain schools because of politics.... DMU prides in its honesty and openness....

DMU also has the CORE (Center for Osteopathic Research and Education) in Ohio.... I'm going their for my entire third year and I've only heard great things....

well, if theirs anything else I can help out with just post away. I hope in someway this has helped.

QUESTION: What organism is associated with Elephantiasis?
ANSWER: Wuchereria Bancrofti and Brugia

It is true that doing a roation at a hospital that you want to do your residency will improve your chances of getting in, so if you want to work in NY you really have to think about this. However, you can do your elective rotations in NY if you decide not to go to NYCOM, but hospitals start interviewing around November, December of your fourth year so you'd have to do those electives early and you won't get as much exposure to the different hospitals in NY(so many to choose from)

As far as OMM goes, we have a great faculty here at NYCOM that is always willing to help.

If you want more insite, just let me know.

If your intention is to remain in the NY area then I strongly suggest NYCOM.
It is possible if you go to DMU to do your away rotations during your third year and fourth year in the NE region but it will not offeryou the same flexibility you will have if you are in the NYCOM system.
