Do appeals to pre-interview rejections really work?

I'm talking about the UC schools in particular.

It's probably too late now, but I'm really starting to regret that I didn't write any appeals for UCLA, by far my first-choice school. I probably also should've written appeal/update letters to schools like UCSD and UCSF, both of which put me on pre-interview hold lists. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Frown]" src="frown.gif" />

Hey WaitingImpatiently, if it's any consolation, I've written to UCSF, UCLA, UCD, and stanford to no avail. I think by the time they send out the letters, all their spots for interviews and etc are filled.

No luck for me.

I tried appealing SF, LA, SD, and Stanfurd.

Stanford was very nice, but got back to me in a day with a big NO :)
SF put me on Hold and then rejected my ass 4 months later.
SD was just rude and never even replied about my appeal (bastards!)
LA I haven't heard from yet but my hopes aren't up.

I appealed to UCSF and UCLA. UCSF was very prompt about it. After 1.5 months, they sent me another rejection letter. But at least they had a whole subcommittee to reconsider my app. I haven't heard from UCLA. I'm in the same mode as scooby: not much hope for an interview.

Hey folks, don't give out all hope. I appealed a pre-secondary rejection from UCSF. I got the secondary, then an interview, and am now sadly on the High Priority list.

what do you guys say in your appeals? i mean, they already reviewed your file and everything...
do you just beg? what reason do you give them???

If you think you may know why you got rejected (i.e. low GPA, MCAT), explain it and give a reason why it should not stand in your way. Praying a little probably helps too...

I am very confused by the UC's. I basically just begged and said I want to stay in California :)

Staying Cali is legit, you just have to frame it differently..."I'm really commited to working community X and I think that Medical School Y's involvement would really help me...."
