For example, if you're applying for a hospitalist position in a major hospital, will they not consider an internist that was trained at a smaller community IM program?

Or do they only care about completion of an accredited IM program and passing board scores?

Don't be silly. You know the answer to these questions.

For the non-teaching service back where I used to work any IM residency was fine. The teaching service expected a university program or fellowship, however.

I think students nowadays are more paranoid because everything is more competitive. So if a person does not want to work in academic psych or IM, and they want a hospitalist job in the community, it doesn't matter where you did residency as long as you are able to get licensed and board certified?

if you want to be in a crowded place then sure, its an easy way to differentiate 150 identical apps. if you dont mind being in a smaller town then no one cares

You can find a hospitalist or PCP job just about anywhere with a pulse and three or fewer DUIs.

No one will really care where you trained except you in the real world.

Certain academic positions not withstanding.

Do employers look at what you did in med school? What about 4 DUIs?
