I'm new to the SDN, so sorry if I don't do something right. But anyway, I'm so depressed. I got a C in organic chemistry this spring semester. I don't even know if I have a chance at med school anymore. Has anyone ever been in my position???

Welcome premedchica. You're gonna get alot of flack for your post probably 😉 but its all in good hearted fun and jest. In short, yes you have a chance for medical school. Lots of people get accepted with Cs. Just try to not let it happen again, and you will be the happier for it. Make sure the rest of your app is golden, and no one will care. Good luck!

nope, you're screwed! 😛

come on guys......ease up on her 😉

anyways....

hey premedchica, any info you get from SDN you have to take with a grain of salt cuz sum info is good and sum is useless.

Personally i got a C+ in Bio 1A and i will still be heading to med school this fall......it's totally about your ability to stay focused and just improve if you get a grade like that. If you have any other questions, PM me or IM(ucbdancn007) me or whatever.

take it easy

holla back

I think your chances for medical school have significantly decreased. I wish you the best of luck as you are certainly going to need it especially as admissions get more competitive with each coming year...

sorry 🙁

I don't like to get C--- especially in a pre med class.

I'm sure you don't either........but if that ever happens to me I would retake the course and try my best and get an A in there.

Just to keep in mind that during the AMCAS gpa calculation, they will include and calculate all of the classes you have taken. +pity+

My advisor had some wise words for me that I'll share with you, "If medical schools kept everyone who made C's in organic chem. out, than we would have far fewer doctors today". I think she's right. Just try not to make it a habit and do extra well in everything else.

if you don't get in to med school over ONE c, then hec...bye bye dreams for me...

my friend just got accepted and he had 2 C's in organic... just do a search... this comes up all the time.... you are by all means not the first person to get a C in organic. My friend also had As in everythign else though....

Man sometimesyou have to be super careful when reading this board. I have gotten TONS of great info on here but you learn what info to believe and not. U have to remember alot of poeple on here are competitive premeds that arent typical premeds. Cs will NOT harm you one bit!!! i have leanred through this process that for one it is very very random but i can ASSURE you a few Cs in your premed classes wont harm you, assuming you do well in most of your other classes and can have a solid mcat showing. But even in the worst case and you mess up your whole gpa( imnot saying at all taht you will!) but you could do a post bac or a masters.. plenty plenty of options for you nooo worries.. forget your C it means NOTHING!! your good to go!

Don't worry about it too much. I think most medical schools are more interested in improvement and dedication then they are a single low grade. I got a C+ in first semester physics, but I also improved my GPA after that semester. I also had significant problems with AMCAS (they coded my grades wrong and had me listed as a junior instead of a senior). Despite all of this, I'm med school bound this fall. Keep your head up, work hard, and definately get some clinical and volunteer experience.

Premedchica,

Even if you don't get into med school, if you are hot, then you'll be fine. That's all that really matters in life.

Good luck with school (Get a tutor for the second semester of orgo chem).

guys...i'm applying to med school this summer. I don't have any time for improvement. That's why I was wondering whether I have a chance. I got a B in first semester ochem. I did pretty bad this past semester, because I was taking four sciences and four labs. I guess I just have to do good on my MCATs.

A C is fine as long as you have a good overall GPA.

A 3.5 is a 3.5 whether it has a few Cs thrown into it or not.
