My DAT is less than a week, after memorizing all the Bio, I hardly memorize any more O-chem reactions. What do I expect in the O-chem sections? More concepts? Or more about the reactions? Thanks

Gotta know both man. They not only ask about concepts, and final products of reactions, but also reaction mechanisms and the intermediate states etc etc.

Good Luck

I did find the OC Destroyer reaction road maps helpful as they are organized and thorough.

That's a format thing. Everyone said they were useful...I hated the road maps. I prefer straight up reactions in a list.

honestly I only looked at the road maps a day or 2 before my test ... it was a nice organized review tool. I also however had my reactions written out on paper as well ... im just trying to give destroyer a little credit and not totally bash it.

I thought the road maps were money. Made them into flashcards and reviewed them every night but I also wrote out my own reactions list and went through that a few times too.

At least know all of the reactions in kaplan blue book... I got a 20 (twice) knowing those (and the concepts of course). There aren't that many... they are mostly repetitive.

What concepts you are talking about? Any examples?

you definitely need to know both reactions and copcepts. i have seen question where youre given products and reactants and have to identify the intermediates and resonance structures. also, you'll most likely see one or two reaction sequences, probably 2-3 steps and thats where i found the road maps very useful. and as eldirty said, its a nice organized review rather than having to flip through pages in a textbook.

the best way for me to learn the reactions was to study the mechanisms. if you can understand the concepts behind the mechanisms youll be golden. try doing a few out such as markovnikov and anti-markovnikov additions, acid/base catalyzed hydrations, grignard, etc. you might even be able to find a few videos on youtube if the visual aspect works better for you.

good luck.
