Do med schools look favorably on students who have international degrees?

hi guys,

i'm fairly new here. i've been lurking these boards a good part of the latter summer and it's somewhat daunting to see how ahead everyone seems to be in the application process. but i've just recently been verified by amcas as i'm a self-proclaimed procastinator extraordinaire! anyways, i guess i have two questions to ask despite what my original thread starter says.

are international students generally less favored upon by med schools, especially of ones in canada? i don't know if i might be shooting for the stars with some of the schools i'm applying to, though i have decent stats that are comparable to their averages. but i'm afraid that having a degree abroad may be a deterrence to some acceptance committees....are there any schools that favor or has a significant contingent of international degree holders/not necessarily international students though?

i guess my second question is that will my application be somewhat affected by turning it in pretty late. it just seems everyone here already has interviews on the horizon when i'm just now waiting for secondaries to pile in *crosses fingers*.

thanks guys for any feedback and good luck this coming year to everyone!! i didn't know i was going to apply this year but things change i guess!!

Your degree from McGill will have very little effect on your application for two reasons: 1) McGill is a well respected school no matter which side of the border you're on and 2) You're MCAT score puts little doubt in the quality of your education. As a general note, reading your MDApplicants file, your app kisks @ss. As long as you have US citizenship, you'll be fine. I think you applied to way too many schools.

hey thanks for the feedback uic1999. yeah, i assumed i may have overdone the applying thing but i just felt i'm late with everything compared to this years class so every school counts right? and plus i have certain attachment to texas schools as i'm from here. but there is something about canada that i just love which is why i applied to several, and plus who can beat tuition prices there...it's like buying canadian bacon straight at the farm!! thanks again for your comments....good luck to you this year too!

You are golden. Don't worry.

Case-

Just wanted to agree with the others, and offer congrats on a great overall application package - looks like you'll be able to get tons of interviews and offers.

In your sig, what is "...be more 'tone'"?

Good luck with it all...

Anyway, you have a great app! I hope to see you on the interview trail in Texas!

If you have any questions about TMDSAS feel free to ask .

Good luck :luck:
