Hi everyone, I'm curious to know if the reputations of programs "matter" as much as NBCOT scores do? I've gotten rejected from every program that I applied to, except for one, and I would love to hear your insight about it.

Thanks and good luck!!!

Sometimes it does. Although you'll be a credentialed therapist if you pass the NBCOT, I've heard of some facilities that talk about the programs people have graduated from, especially if they are local to the area. But sometimes we don't have a choice of where we get accepted and we want to follow our dreams and go into this field. I think probably one of the most important factors is the pass rate for the NBCOT and how well the school overall prepared you for the field. I'd try to talk to students and graduates of the program you were accepted into and find out their opinion.

I definitely agree that it's more about following your dream than getting into the "right" school, and I'm leaning towards going where I got in. Education is what you make of it, right? :) I've just heard that Philadelphia U. is not as strong a program as Jefferson, and Jefferson was my #1 choice.

My stats:

Undergrad GPA: 3.78
Pre-req GPA: 3.9
Major: Sociology/English Lit.
GRE: Quant 134, Verbal 158, Writing 4 or 5 (can't remember)
Shadowing Hours: 50 with one geriatric site, 50 with a peds site

I've spoken to a few of the admissions counselors at the schools I applied to, and all said my GRE scores took me out of the game. So frustrating.

Schools I applied to:

Pitt (went there undergrad, too!) - rejected
Jefferson - rejected
NYIT - rejected
Philadelphia Univ. - accepted

Good luck, guys!!!

It frustrates me so much that GRE scores are what can be the determinant of your acceptance. I got a 155 verbal 147 quant and 4.5 analytical and am praying that I get into Med university ofSC. I'm hoping my GRE scores won't affect my app too badly

I'm sure you'll be fine with those scores! When I spoke to the Jefferson admissions people, they explained that I'd be ideal "if only" I could bring my quant GRE score up.

For what it's worth, I took Jewel's advice and am going to speak to a current student at Phila U to hear about the real experience. They have a 91% NBCOT pass rate, so that's great. Still just a bit bummed.

At least you got in somewhere! Congrats! Don't worry too much, it is an accredited program, so I wouldn't stress. Good luck!

That's really high! Congrats! I tried to focus on the pass rates when applying to schools so I'm sure you'll be just fine at that school. Get what you're saying though!

Hopefully not. I would have applied to Jefferson but the weekend program at Philadelphia University was much more appealing to me. I think employers will ultimately consider your experience/ personality over what school you went to.
