Do OMFS program directors care how many programs you apply to?

Hey, I am applying this summer and currently have a list of about 40 programs. Would program directors see this large number and look down on it? Is it important to shorten the list? I am just not sure how competitive I will be and I want to get in somewhere.

How would they know how many programs you apply to?

I was thinking they could see it on my app. If not, then I guess it wouldn't matter unless they asked at an interview.

No one cares, and they are not supposed to ask you where else you have applied. Don't tell them if it makes you feel better.
