Do radiologists buy their own MRI/CT scanners?

I know firsthand that these things can cost anywhere from 1.5-5 million dollars, not necessarily including all the structural modifications that have to be done before you can install it (i.e. vibration testing, EMI shielding, etc)

The only environment I've seen MRI/CT equipment is in major hospitals or outpatient centers affiliated with the hospital.

Could I become a private practice rad and buy my own magnet? Is that even financially feasible or do you end up losing money on such an investment?

Many private practice groups have outpatient centers where they own the MR, CT, US etc. This means that they can collect both the professional and technical fees.
