why do you want to do that? residency training oversea is not recognized in US. that's the reason why IMGs have to do the residency in this country to be eligible for the license, no matter how much training they got from abroad. I know you can do one month rotation during your residency. if this is what you mean, you should have no problem to find a short term rotation in the countries you mentioned. Talk to the residency program in the US, ask for the international rotation requirement, but bear in mind foreign medical training is basically for your personal experience, not for the credit to practice some specialties in US.

I wanted to go back to Australia because that is where I am from and that's where my family is.

This information is available on a pre-DO forum sticky. There is information for other countries as well: http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?t=107627

Australia

Year of Last Request: 2000
Scope of Practice: varies

A U.S. educated and trained osteopathic physician was recruited to head up an emergency room in the suburbs of Sydney. Through the efforts of the hospital, he secured an unlimited medical license through the New South Wales Medical Board upon endorsement of the Australian College of Emergency Medicine. It appears that licensure would be dependent on the state. Previously, the Australia Medical Council denied a request by the AOA to recognize U.S. educated and trained D.O.s for the unlimited practice of medicine.

Hi DOdoc11,

I know that as a Canadian I can come back and do residency in Canada (depending on province and specialty). BUT, I have no idea how Australia works. I am sure there is some mechanism for doing this. Lots of common wealth countries will have a way to evaluate your training to determine if its equal to MD or MBMS in Australia.

With a lot of red tape.. you can prob. find a way to go back. But don't be surprised is you get a rural or less desired residency.

Good luck... also you can try Canada (ontario or alberta)
