Does the copy of the amcas app that a school receives include the entire list of schools you applied to? It seems rather unfair/cruel to let them see that. Then again, this entire process is geared towards being "open"-or what I like to call sadistic but anyway...

No, they don't get that info on your AMCAS. But apparently they do know where else you've been accepted.

I thought that the schools don't know where you are accepted until the deadline for making a decision in Spring has passed on which school you chose to attend? :scared: :scared: :scared:

Seeing the the printout of what interviewers get from AMCAS, it seems to be the exact same thing you see as a pdf printout, but the section of what schools you've applied to is cut out. It ends right at the section with the personal statement.

Cool Turkeyman!

Yup... exactly.
And what Q said earlier, the schools can access the AAMC database and see what schools you have given your acceptace checks to at any time.

Is it acceptance checks or acceptance letters?

I know that some schools require you to give them an answer within two weeks,. but don't necessarily require deposit checks until much later (i think the may 15 deadline). so which is it?

I previously thought along the same lines of a previous poster. I thought med schools didn't see this information until later in the spring...like march or april or something like that. I'm confused

I was under the impression that med schools confer with each other unofficially to find out who've been accepted where, but I'm not exactly sure when. I'm thinking before May 15th, because by then, we're only supposed be holding on to one spot, right? They must have their ways of knowing...

In terms of knowing where else you've applied, med schools don't know unless your interviewers ask. That's happened to me - I've had to list every school I applied to.

ditto, at one school I applied to, I got asked by every interviewer where I was applying. I was able to be vague and say "mostly southeast", but one guy wouldn't be put off and actually went through the list and checked off places he thought I would be accepted at!!! It was definitely one of those moments of "hmmm is this a good thing because he thinks I'm that good...or does he think that it would be worthless to accept me because I'd get in somewhere with a better rep?"

Is this rumor or learned from an AAMC policy written somewhere? I had heard that schools were not able to learn about other acceptances... 😕

The only way schools can find out where you've applied or been accepted to is if you tell them. After May 15th, all schools are notified where you are also accepted at, and they can start pressuring you to make your final decision if you are holding more than one acceptance.

According to AAMC (http://www.aamc.org/students/amcas/datacollection.htm):

"We disclose, of course, information provided in a medical school application to the schools to which the applicant designates the information to be sent. We also circulate the names of applicants accepted to each school to every other school after all deadlines have passed but before classes have begun. We do that upon authorization by each school, in order to facilitate an orderly process for schools to resolve cases of applicants with multiple acceptances."

Not sure what "all deadlines" means, though....

hmmm, interesting, i had always thought that the deans of every school meet about once every 6 weeks in a secret, underground cavern to discuss applicants applying to the same schools, followed by a game of darts for a primary screening of applicants....i guess my information must be wrong, but it's from a reliable source

I thought I read somewhere earlier that April was when schools see your other acceptances, giving you time to hash out financial aid packages and what not. Don't know if it was "official" information, though.
