DO schools that strong reputations out west (specifically CA)

Although I'm currently living on the opposite side of the country, I grew up in CA and all my family lives there. It is very important to me to eventually be able to move back home.

Apart from Touro CA and Western, which DO schools have strong reputations on the west coast? Which are most likely to afford me the opportunity to get into a residency program in CA?

Please don't respond with the idea that any school can get you into any residency, and any residency can get you the job you want in any part of the country. For many places in California this really isn't true, at least not reliably so...

My application should be fairly competitive for all DO schools and I don't have my heart set on any of the more competitive specialties.

That's just it... you answered the question yourself. really the only two programs that consistently match high percentages of grads into CA residency programs are Touro CA and Western. You can also consider places like PNWU, Touro-NV, AZCOM, ATSU, but the California school is generally going to give you the best shot at matching into the California residency program. Specifically, if you want to match in SoCal, go to Western; NorCal, go to Touro-CA.

It's quite simple. Regional biases dictate which DO grads residency program directors (especially for ACGME programs) are comfortable with.

Just look at the 2014 match lists for Western and Touro and compare them to other schools'. For a variety of reasons, these two schools have by far the greatest percentages of grads matching in California out of any DO schools.
